In the afternoons, students will rehearse for a fully staged musical theatre production. The curriculum will include scene study, acting through song, musical theatre dance techniques, monologues, repertoire & song choice and more. In the mornings, students will take intensive acting, dance, and music classes taught by visiting professors from the country's top musical theater colleges and universities. The Ohana Arts Junior Academy is an intensive program that is geared for students who have a love for musical theatre and are serious about developing their skills as young artists. July 21st-24th - Musical Theatre Productions Performance Weekendįor students completing grades 7-9 (SY 2021-22) July 4th - NO SCHOOL (4th of July Holiday) June 12th - Mandatory Parent and Student Meeting Placement auditions will take place on May 21st & 22nd, 2022, and call back auditions will take place on June 4th & 5th, 2022.ġ2:15 PM - 1:00 PM Lunchtime Activities/Elective Audition requirements and schedule will be sent out in late April. These auditions are for class and production placement only, and do not affect a student's enrollment status. Placement Auditions: Students are required to attend placement auditions prior to the start of the program. The remaining balance is due by May 16th, 2022.

A $400 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of initial registration in order to secure a spot in the program. Registration Deadline: Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis as space is limited. Opportunities to perform in camp coffeehouses/open mic sessions, and participate in discussions with special industry guests.

One elective course that meets twice a week for 45 minutes

Weekly private voice lessons (Five 30-minute lessons), culminating in a voice recital on either July 16th & 17th In addition to music, dance, and acting technique classes, participation in the Summer Musical Showcase and Musical Theatre Production, students in the Musical Theatre Intensive Program will also partake in: Students will be placed in one of the following 2022 summer productions: "NEWSIES" or "MATILDA", ( Please note that in order to provide the best experience possible, Ohana Arts reserves the right to change the production lineup if needed). In the afternoons, students will rehearse for a fully staged musical production, which will be professionally staged either in the 600-seat Kennedy Theater or the 150-seat Ernst Lab Theatre on the University of Hawaii Campus (both newly renovated). The showcase features various solo and group dances, original works, and collaborative musical numbers from a wide variety of musical genres. The morning classes will culminate in a Summer Musical Showcase performance on Friday, July 15th, 2022. Students are placed into morning classes by age group and experience.

The day is structured so that students take technique-building classes each morning in Acting, Dance, and Music in the mornings, and rehearse for a fully staged musical theatre production in the afternoons. Enrollment is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. The program is geared for students who have some experience in the performing arts or display a strong interest.
